What If…?, an anthology series that explores alternate MCU possibilities, has released its debut episode.

What If…? is the next Marvel Studios web series to premiere on Disney+ after great anticipation. Trollhunters: Tales of Arcadia writer A.C. Bradley and Marvel storyboard veteran Bryan Andrews devised the animated anthology show to explore various timelines in the MCU world.
To fully comprehend the core notion of What If…? , having seen Marvel’s Loki, which recently introduced the universe to the MCU, is helpful.

What If…? The first episode, “What If… Captain Carter Were The First Avenger?”, centers on a (mostly) WWII-era Peggy Carter who made a significant alternate choice that had a huge impact on the development of Captain America.
We recommend going back and watching Captain America: The First Avenger, Marvel One-Shot: Agent Carter, and the first act of The Avengers to get a better idea of the primary characters and how things altered inside the branch timeline presented in this first episode.
This episode imagined what would have happened if Steve Rogers had been unable to take the super soldier serum during World War II, and Peggy Carter had instead agreed to be Dr. Abraham Erskine’s lab rat.

During the classic transformation moment seen in Captain America: The First Avenger, Peggy’s ” What If…? ” was deciding to stand her ground and stay in the room while the serum was delivered. She then had the opportunity to intervene in the Hydra bombing, but Steve became entangled in the chaos and was shot.
With time running out to complete the super soldier process, Peggy rushed into the machine and acquired the identity of Captain Carter, who possessed all of Captain America’s physical abilities as well as a new costume and a shield with a Union Jack in its center.
Steve became her sidekick in a Tesseract-powered Hydra Stomper – essentially an early version of the Iron Man outfit – thanks to Howard Stark.
For good reason, Episode 1 felt like a pilot for an ongoing Captain Carter series: What If…? has confirmed that each season will include at least one Peggy Carter installment.
