It will be released on the PlayStation 5 on September 2nd, with a PC version ‘in development.’

At Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest, we got a full, official preview of The Last of Us Part 1, as well as a smidgeon of new information on the upcoming Last of Us multiplayer game (opens in new tab). Unfortunately, the Summer Game Fest segment didn’t provide any additional information on when the “in-development” PC version will be released. Given the fact that Naughty Dog is working on it, we can expect a quicker turnaround than we’ve seen in the past with Sony exclusive ports.
The Last Of Us, perhaps PlayStation’s most iconic modern classic, is coming to PC for the first time. This comes in the form of the game’s long-awaited remake (which isn’t really needed, but whatever). The most amusing aspect is the ridiculous name they’ve given it: The original will now be known as The Last Of Us Part 1 as a result of the sequel.

Aside from the ludicrous names, this game is fantastic. It’s based on Cormac McCarthy’s The Road and follows Joel and Ellie through a dangerous post-apocalyptic America. Ellie’s blood may hold the key to curing whatever virus has caused this, and Joel’s job is to get her to the right people in a safe manner. I strongly advise you to play it if you haven’t already.
The game’s announcement was a little sloppy: it was leaked by Sony’s own PlayStation Direct site, and ResetEra picked up the listing before it was taken down. The internet is to be praised! For the time being, the trailer is still available here(opens in new tab)—I’ll post an update once it’s been properly announced.

The listing also mentions that it will be released on PS5 on September 2 and that a PC version is in the works. So don’t hold your breath for it this year, but it’s a declaration of intent. According to the listing, this is a “total overhaul” of the original, with “faithfully reproduced gameplay, improved controls, and expanded accessibility options.” “Improved effects, enhanced exploration, and combat” are also promised.
