According to records filed with the US safety agency, Tesla will recall around 475,000 cars in the US.
Tesla announced a recall of 356,309 vehicles due to potential rear-view camera issues impacting Model 3 Teslas from 2017 to 2020.A total of 119,009 Model S vehicles will be recalled due to potential issues with the front trunk, popularly known as the boot. According to Reuters, the total recall tally is nearly equal to the 500,000 cars Tesla shipped last year. Tesla has been contacted by the BBC for comment.
According to a safety study released this month, roughly 1% of recalled Model 3s may have a faulty rear-view camera.
According to a Tesla Safety Recall notice issued to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on December 21, “repeated opening and closing of the trunk lid” may cause excessive wear to a cable that delivers the rear-view camera feed over time. The complaint states that if the cable’s core separates due to wear, “the rear-view camera feed is not viewable on the center display.”
It goes on to say that the removal of the rear-view camera display may “raise the danger of collision.” Vehicles made between 2014 and 2021 are included in the Model S recall, and some of them may have a problem with a “secondary latch” on the front trunk, or boot.
Tesla states that if the primary latch is unintentionally removed, the front trunk “may open without warning and impair the driver’s view, increasing the risk of a crash” in another Safety Recall report submitted on December 21.According to the research, the fault may be present in 14% of recalled Model S vehicles.
“Tesla is not aware of any collisions, injuries, or deaths” related to the potential flaws, according to the reports in both cases.
This isn’t the first time the electric vehicle company has had to issue a recall due to a safety problem. Tesla agreed to make improvements to its Passenger Play feature, which allows passengers to play games on the car’s touchscreen while it is in motion, last week.
It took action when the NHTSA initiated an investigation. While the automobile is moving, the function will be locked and unavailable.
