With a suspenseful five-wicket victory over India in the Men’s T20 World Cup, South Africa ascended to the top of Group 2.

T20: South Africa upset India with five wicket victory

Despite Suryakumar Yadav’s powerful 68 off 40 balls, the Proteas were able to hold India to 133-9 thanks in large part to Lungi Ngidi’s 4-29 performance.

In retaliation, South Africa faltered to 24-3, but David Miller’s 59 from 46 balls helped them finish with two balls remaining. With a win in Perth, the Proteas move ahead of India, who suffers their first loss of the competition.

After South Africa’s weak start with the bat, Miller and Aiden Markram added 76 runs for the fourth wicket to turn the contest in their favor.

Markram supported the South African innings in the middle overs with a 52 from 41 balls despite being dropped on 35 by Virat Kohli and surviving Rohit Sharma’s missed clean run out opportunity from five yards seven balls later.

In the 16th over, Markram finally fell, but Miller maintained his composure to lead South Africa to victory in an exciting finale. Earlier, Bangladesh had momentarily surpassed Zimbabwe, which is also still in the running for qualification, with a thrilling victory.

In the second game on Sunday, Pakistan eliminated Netherlands, leaving them with virtually little chance of moving on.
