The fictional game show SQUID GAME is unlike any other, and viewers can’t get enough of it. Is there going to be a second season of the show?
What is Squid Game about?
Squid Game is a one-of-a-kind Netflix series, both artistically and in terms of content. Contestants are offered an odd invitation to engage in and finish a series of children’s games on this fictitious game show. The players reluctantly agree because they are short on cash, but they soon realize that this isn’t just a game of winners and losers.
Players are divided into teams and each has a chance to win a 45 billion won prize, but those who lose will pay the price with their lives.
Will Squid Game get renewed for a second season?
Netflix hasn’t said whether or not it will renew its most successful Korean drama ever, despite the fact that it has only been 10 days since it premiered. The streamer normally renews its US shows after a few months, and there’s less information on their overseas renewals to see if there’s a pattern.
If the program is revived, fans would have to wait a long time for Season 2. Squid Game was initially revealed in 2019, and it took two years to complete production. Season 2 would most likely not come until early 2023, even under the most optimistic timeframe.
What would Squid Game season two be about?
Season 1 of the Squid Game lasted the entire game, with Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) taking home the 456 billion won prize. When Gi-hun runs across the Salesman (Gong Yoo) recruiting another player a year later, he realizes that the Game is going to start all over again. Gi-hun resolves to stay in Korea just before leaving for America in the hopes of putting an end to the Game once and for all.
Fans are hopeful that Gi-story hun’s will continue after the victory, with the victor joining forces with others to shut down the hidden, global death Game. Everything is up in the air except Gi-likely hun’s comeback. He may try to persuade the police to help him after they turned him away in Episode 2, or he could track down more prior players who may or may not have recovered enough from their trauma to take on the affluent VIPs and game masters.
What have the cast and crew said about Squid Game season two?
In an interview with Variety, writer-director Hwang Dong-hyuk confessed that creating the first season on his own took a lot out of him. In his decades-long career, Hwang has primarily worked in the cinema industry, with Squid Game being his debut drama.
“To get my creative juices flowing, I used to drink half a bottle of soju (Korean liquor). That’s something I can’t do anymore, “he stated “Because it was a series rather than a film, writing (‘Squid Game’) was more difficult than usual for me. The first two episodes took me six months to write and rewrite. Then I conferred with friends verbally, picking up hints for improvement from my own pitching and their reactions.”
