On Easter Sunday, approximately 800 couples married in one of South Africa's largest mass wedding ceremonies since the COVID-19 epidemic began.

At the ceremony held at the Jerusalem congregation, 100 kilometers (62 miles) north of Johannesburg, current spouses donned vibrant and colorful costumes, while first-time brides wore conventional white gowns. The event provided a welcome reprieve from a long-running controversy over the church’s leadership, which has around three million followers.

The mass wedding was held under strict security, with armed guards patrolling the venue and metal detectors used to screen the attendees. The ceremonies provided joy and happiness to the couples and their families, as well as to the community.
