Russia-Ukraine peace talks commence
Russia-Ukraine: Delegations from the two nations have began negotiations aimed at ending the crisis on the fifth day after Russian military entered Ukraine. The Ukrainian president’s office has demanded a rapid ceasefire and Russian forces’ withdrawal. Meanwhile, according to Russian negotiator Vladimir Medinsky, Moscow wants to negotiate an arrangement that benefits all parties.
Prior to the commencement of the conference, Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky asked Russian troops to lay down their guns and urged the EU to grant Ukraine immediate membership.

Russia has around $630 billion (£470 billion) in reserves, a savings account built up as a result of rising oil and gas prices. However, because much of this money is held in foreign currencies such as the dollar, euro, and sterling, as well as gold, a Western embargo on dealing with Russia’s central bank prevents Moscow from getting its hands on it.

The EU’s foreign affairs and security policy representative is hosting a meeting with the bloc’s defense ministers to address the Russia-Ukraine crisis. According to Josep Borrell Fontelles’ tweet, the agenda would focus on “immediate requirements” and coordination of the EU’s help to the Ukrainians.
Ukraine’s President Zelensky had previously urged for the country’s quick membership in the EU. According to the AFP news agency, President of the European Council Charles Michel has commented, saying there are “various viewpoints and sensitivities inside the EU on expansion.”
I am convening today the EU defence ministers, to discuss the latest situation on the ground in #Ukraine in view of Russia’s unprovoked assault.
