Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), a Ligue 1 club, stated on Sunday that four first-team players, including Lionel Messi, had tested positive for COVID-19.
“Leo Messi, Juan Bernat, Sergio Rico, and Nathan Bitumazala are the four players who have tested positive for Covid-19. They are currently in isolation and are being treated according to medical protocol “In a statement, PSG said. During the Christmas break, Messi flew back to Rosario and apparently tested positive on Saturday. Before he may return to France, he must test negative for the virus. As a result, he will miss Monday’s Coupe de France match against Vannes OC. Bernat, Rico, and Bitumazala will as well.
PSG fans have had conflicting opinions about Messi’s performance since he joined the club in August 2021. On the one hand, he only had one goal and five assists in 11 Ligue 1 games for PSG, which was unthinkable for a player who had never scored less than 23 goals in the domestic league since the 2008-09 season.
Messi, on the other hand, would shine in the UEFA Champions League, scoring five goals in five games. PSG did not win any of the three games in which Messi either did not score or sat on the bench. Because Kylian Mbappe, the club’s 23-year-old genius, is expected to become a free agency and leave in the summer, PSG will have very little opportunity to use their amazing combo of Messi, Mbappe, and Neymar on the field.
The club also provided an update on Neymar’s recuperation from a left ankle injury. The Brazilian striker will “continue his therapy in Brazil until January 9,” and won’t be back in training for another three weeks. On January 9, PSG travels to Olympique Lyonnais in Ligue 1 and hosts Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League on February 15.

Messi won the Ballon d’Or for the seventh time in November. Messi set a new record with the triumph, now having two more titles than his arch rival Cristiano Ronaldo. Although Messi had a disappointing season at club level, the 34-year-old Argentine was instrumental in Argentina’s Copa América victory earlier this year.
He was also the top scorer in the Spanish league and scored two goals in Barca’s Copa del Rey victory.
