Following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Microsoft has halted sales of its products and services in the country.
Apple and Dell, among other major computer businesses, have taken similar judgments. Other elements of Microsoft’s business in the country have been suspended to comply with government sanctions, according to the company. It also stated that it was assisting Ukraine with cyber-security in order to guard against cyber-attacks launched by Russia.
Russia’s invasion of Ukraine began in late February, when the country was attacked without warning. Thousands of people have died as a result of the violence, including many civilians, and almost a million people have fled the nation. As a result of the attack, numerous governments throughout the world have imposed sanctions on Russia. Major corporations such as Shell, BP, and Apple, as well as entertainment businesses such as Disney, Warner Bros., and Paramount, have all ceased operations in the country.
“We have taken action against Russian positioning, damaging or disruptive efforts against over 20 Ukrainian government, IT, and financial sector organizations since the war began,” Microsoft President Brad Smith said in a statement.
Suspended operations:
Several digital businesses, including RT and Sputnik, have taken steps to ban Russian state-controlled media. Microsoft withdrew RT’s mobile apps from the Windows app store earlier this week. Facebook, Google, and YouTube have taken steps to prevent Russian state media from profiting from advertisements on their platforms. Cisco, Oracle, Netflix, and Spotify are among the companies that have ceased operations in the country. Airbnb has halted all bookings in Russia and Belarus and is providing free lodging to 100,000 Ukrainian migrants.

Mykhailo Fedorov, Ukraine’s deputy prime minister, encouraged game giants such as Microsoft and PlayStation to leave the Russian market and assist the Ukrainian people on Wednesday. Along with Microsoft, numerous other companies, including CD Projekt Group and Bloober Team, have indicated that they will no longer be selling in Russia.
“We expect additional tech giants to follow suit and pull the plug on Russia by this weekend, given the awful crimes seen coming out of Ukraine,” said Dan Ives, an analyst at Wedbush Securities. According to business news program CNBC, Chinese corporations like as Huawei, Xiaomi, and Alibaba have so far declined to comment on whether they will break connections with Russia.
Microsoft also stated that it is working with its employees in Ukraine to secure their safety, as well as mobilizing its Microsoft Philanthropies and United Nations Affairs teams to provide extra support, notably in the area of cyber-security for civilians.
