Al Hilal SFC, a football club based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, is reportedly offering a staggering €400 million per year deal to persuade Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) superstar Lionel Messi to join them.

Messi’s current contract with PSG is set to expire soon, and it is widely expected that he will leave the club at the end of the current season. However, it is understood that Messi is prioritizing staying within the European leagues, despite the substantial financial incentives being offered by Al Hilal.

If Al Hilal succeeds in securing the 2022 World Cup winner, the Saudi Arabian league’s status would undoubtedly rise as he joins his great rival Cristiano Ronaldo, who currently plays for Al Nassr. Both Messi and Ronaldo have played in La Liga, with Messi at Barcelona and Ronaldo at Real Madrid.

Messi left Barcelona in 2021 after the club failed to renew his contract, and he subsequently joined PSG, where he became a key player, scoring 29 goals and providing 32 assists in 67 games. The 35-year-old signed a two-year deal with the French club, which is set to expire at the end of the current season.

Recently, Messi was jeered by a group of PSG supporters prior to their 1-0 Ligue 1 defeat against Lyon. This was the second time that Messi had faced such an incident, the first being during a 2-0 loss to Rennes on March 19. Following the game against Lyon, coach Christophe Galtier expressed his disappointment with the way Messi was treated by the fans, stating that “whistles against Leo Messi are very harsh. Leo is a player who gives a lot. He also gave a lot in the first part of the season. But it is also up to other players to have more functions.”

If Messi decides to accept Al Hilal’s enormous offer, the football world would witness two of the greatest players of all time, Messi and Ronaldo, playing in the Middle East.
