Liverpool completed a fantastic domestic season by defeating Wolves 3-1 at Anfield.

Liverpool finished one point behind City, as they did last season, and missed out on a record-tying 20th English league title. Jurgen Klopp’s side also needed Manchester City to lose against Aston Villa, which is managed by Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard, and the league leaders recovered from a two-goal deficit to win 3-2 in a frantic finish at Etihad Stadium.
Despite coming from behind to beat Wolves on the final day of the Premier League season, Liverpool’s bid for an unprecedented quadruple of major trophies ended in agony on Sunday. Liverpool has had an incredible season, winning the FA Cup and League Cup and advancing to the Champions League final against Real Madrid next weekend.

After Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate misread a long ball forward, Raul Jimenez ran through and crossed for Pedro Neto to tap in in the third minute, Wolves took the lead. Sadio Mane equalized in the 24th minute, and Liverpool completed its side of the final-day bargain by scoring in the final six minutes through Mohamed Salah and Andrew Robertson.

Jordan Henderson, Liverpool’s captain, described the match as a “difficult afternoon” and congratulated City on their title triumph.

“We didn’t play very well, there were a few nerves, but we pulled through nicely in the end and scored some fantastic goals,” Henderson told Sky Sports.
“We persisted and eventually won, but it was a difficult afternoon.” “At the Etihad, we didn’t really know what was going on; we were simply concentrated on ourselves.” “Unfortunately, it was insufficient. Throughout the season, we gave our all. We would have chewed your hand off in January to get it to the last day.
“I’m incredibly proud of what the boys have accomplished, and we have to congratulate City.”
On Saturday, the Champions League final will be played.
