The President of Ukraine has called the deadly attack on Kharkiv a “war crime,” and a large Russian convoy has massed outside Kyiv.

After his country’s second-largest city, Kharkiv, was targeted by severe bombardment and Russian forces massed outside the nation’s capital, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy accused Russia of committing a war crime.

“The missile strike against Kharkiv is a war crime, an act of state terror,” Zelensky said in a video statement released after the deadly March 1 attack on the northwestern regional capital’s central square, which also hit the city government building. “Russia is now a terrorist country as a result of such an attack.”

At least ten people were murdered, according to emergency services, in the strike, which came after Russian bombardment killed hundreds the day before. Moscow has stated numerous times that it is not targeting civilian areas in Ukraine during its “military operation,” which is now in its sixth day. As a convoy of artillery and armored vehicles stretching more than 65 kilometers massed outside Kyiv, the strikes on Kharkiv began.

General Mykola Zhyrnov has been chosen as Kyiv’s military governor to “ensure a competent defense of the capital,” according to Zelenskiy. The convoy that has been steadily approaching Kyiv was within kilometers of the city, according to satellite pictures, in what Ukraine’s military forces regard as an attempt to surround and take control of the country’s largest city.

“The cities of Kharkiv and Kyiv are now Russia’s most vital targets. Terrorists want to break us and our resistance “In his video speech, Zelensky added. “They attack the capital in the same way they attacked Kharkiv. As a result, the state’s top priority today is the defense of the capital.”

The developments came after cease-fire talks between Ukrainian and Russian officials on February 28 failed to reach a breakthrough, although each side agreed to continue negotiations in the coming days. Zelenskiy, who in a video address on February 28 directly appealed to Russian troops to ignore their orders and stop fighting, offered no details of the hours-long talks that took place in neighboring Belarus. However, he said, Kyiv was not prepared to make concessions “when one side is hitting another with rocket artillery.”

On February 28, three missile attacks targeted Kyiv, Zelenskiy said, adding that hundreds of Russian saboteurs were roaming the city and that capturing the capital remained a “priority goal” for Moscow.

“They want to destabilize our country. As a result, the capital is continually threatened “According to Zelenskiy. There has been no independent confirmation of the number of deaths. On February 27, Russia’s army revealed for the first time that some of its men had been “killed and injured,” but provided no figures or more information.
