After assisting Real Madrid in winning the Champions League and La Liga, Karim Benzema was awarded the 2022 Ballon d’Or, which is given to the player of the year in international football.

He experienced a thigh injury, according to the French national squad, and was unable to participate in the competition. The statement said, “The entire team feels heartbroken for Karim and wishes him a quick recovery.”

An MRI scan revealed a thigh muscle damage, which the French Football Federation stated “would require a three-week recuperation time.” France plays Australia on November 22, Denmark on November 26, and Tunisia on November 30 in Group D.

The 34-year-old Benzema, who has scored 37 goals in 97 games for France, is injured, and head coach Didier Deschamps has until Monday to select a replacement. This is another setback for the World Cup champions.

Midfielders Paul Pogba and N’Golo Kante are already out injured, and Manchester United defender Raphael Varane is working to get well after missing the last five club games.

After limping out of practice on Wednesday, RB Leipzig attacker Christopher Nkunku was forced to withdraw from the competition. Randal Kolo Muani of Eintracht Frankfurt was called in to fill his spot.

Anthony Martial of Manchester United is one of the potential replacements for Karim Benzema, who has been dealing with a thigh issue since October.
