Hugh Jackman teased a comeback to the role of Wolverine in the X-Men franchise with a series of cryptic Instagram posts.

The Australian actor Hugh Jackman previously portrayed the mutant in nine X-Men flicks before retiring from the role in 2017’s Logan. However, Jackman recently published an Instagram story with two photographs that definitely suggest a return to the part.

Marvel fans are in for a week unlike any other in the MCU. Loki episode 5 will air on Wednesday, and it’s expected to be even more thrilling than the last episode. On Friday, Black Widow will be released, bringing us the first MCU Phase 4 film, albeit 14 months later than expected. As Marvel and Disney continue to release new TV programs and movies that overlap, we may expect more weeks like these. But Hugh Jackman’s flawless Wolverine MCU teaser, which shattered the internet, made the week even better.

Although not all of the Wolverine films were particularly successful, Jackman’s portrayal of the character remains famous. Several Wolverine and X-Men films featured the beloved X-Men superhero. Then Jackman revealed that Logan will be his final appearance as Wolverine.

All of this happened before Disney bought Fox. With the acquisition, Marvel regained control of the X-Men franchise. Kevin Feige, the studio’s president, announced in 2019 that the mutants will be included in the MCU. The Fantastic Four and Deadpool franchises were also included in the Fox agreement. Marvel, on the other hand, has never made clear intentions for an X-Men film. It also failed to cast anyone for the upcoming X-Men relaunch.

Hugh Jackman’s name began to pop up in different Avengers rumors, with many speculating that the actor might reprise his Wolverine role for the MCU. The most recent rumors date back to late 2020, when it was reported that Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige wanted Jackman to reprise his role as Wolverine. Initial talks between the two sides, according to some, have already taken place.

Alfred Molina, who will reprise his role as Spider-Man 2 villain Otto “Doctor Octopus” Octavius in Spider-Man: No Way Home later this year, is one of many performers who have starred in Marvel adaptations outside of the MCU.
