Emily blunt is confirmed to star IN THE UNIVERSAL BIOPIC alongside Cillian Murphy
Emily Blunt is moving into Christopher Nolan’s world as this is Blunt’s first collaboration with Nolan. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the actor will star with Cillian Murphy in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer. The biopic of J. Robert Oppenheimer, a theoretical physicist who is regarded as one of the fathers of the atomic bomb, will be released by Universal Pictures.
Nolan, who is known for cultivating long-term relationships with actors and cast Murphy as his leading man after including him in supporting roles since 2005’s Batman Begins. Murphy has appeared in a number of Nolan films over the last decade and a half, including Batman Begins, Inception, and Dunkirk, but Oppenheimer will be Murphy’s first main role in one of the director’s films.
Emily Blunt recently starred in Paramount’s sequel to A Quiet Place and Disney’s Jungle Cruise. Her casting was initially announced by Deadline.
According to CNet, Nolan’s film adaption, set during World War II and based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer, is set to begin filming in 2022. The film is set to be released On July 22, 2023.
Nolan will write and direct the film, with Emma Thomas, his creative collaborator and wife, producing alongside Charles Roven of Atlas Entertainment. After Nolan’s long-running partnership with Warner Bros. ended, Oppenheimer will tell the story of the titular leader, who led the Manhattan Endeavor, a US Army-backed project to build atomic weapons during WWII.

Universal describes the project as an “epic thriller that thrusts audiences into the pulse-pounding paradox of the enigmatic man who must risk destroying the world in order to save it.”
Given Nolan’s track record of using the same pool of actors for each of his movies, the choice of Cillian Murphy isn’t surprising. Tom Hardy, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Michael Caine are among the many actors who have starred in most of Nolan’s films from Batman Begins, up to and including last year’s Tenet.
