Elon Musk, the newly appointed owner of Twitter, has declared that the procedure for obtaining the coveted “blue tick” will be changed, amid rumors that the company may start charging $20 (£17) per month to be verified.

Elon Musk to revise the verification i.e., the twitter blue tick

Days after assuming control of the social media behemoth, Mr. Elon Musk tweeted that the authentication procedure was being updated. Right now, a blue tick is free and used to indicate that an account is legitimate.

On Friday, Mr. Musk completed his $44 billion (£37.9 billion) acquisition. He has since changed his Twitter handle to Chief Twit. The billionaire frequently voiced worries about the verification process and the quantity of spam and bot accounts he believed littered the site during the months of legal fighting before to the acquisition.

No other information was provided in Mr. Musk’s post from Sunday regarding what specifically would change. However, The Verge, a technology website, reported internal communication to claim that Twitter now intends to charge users $19.99 per month to maintain their blue tick verification status.

The idea, according to the report, calls for quadrupling the cost of Twitter Blue, the company’s subscription service, and adding verification as a feature. It states that verified users would have 90 days to subscribe or risk losing their blue tick.

The idea was announced to the staff on Sunday, and they have been instructed to start the program by November 7 to avoid losing their jobs, the statement continued.

With the advent of Twitter Blue last summer, users now have access to a number of premium features, including the ability to delete a tweet.

At the moment, it is an optional $4.99 monthly fee. Although the idea has not been officially confirmed, Mr. Musk seemed to acknowledge the rumors on Monday in a fresh tweet that read: “On no, all our wicked plans have been disclosed!!”
