Military tensions Between China-taiwan are at their worst in more than 40 years

Tensions between China and Taiwan have reached a new high after Chinese military aircraft repeatedly flew past Taiwan’s air defense identification zone.

Chiu Kuo-cheng made his remarks four days after China launched a “record number” of military jets into Taiwan’s air defense zone. Tensions between Taipei and Beijing have reached a new high after Chinese military aircraft repeatedly flew past Taiwan’s air defense identification zone.

Taiwan reported around 150 Chinese air force aircraft entering its air defense zone over a four-day period beginning last Friday, part of a pattern of what Taipei says Beijing’s persistent harassment of the island.

China-Taiwan military situation getting worse

“By 2025, China will bring the cost and attrition to its lowest. It has the capacity now, but it will not start a war easily, having to take many other things into consideration.”

Taiwan’s air defense zone, which it monitors for threats, encompasses the Taiwan Strait as well as a huge expanse of mainland China. Jets breaching an unofficial border between China and Taiwan are considered incursions by them.

While Chinese jets have not yet been flown all the way to the island, Mr Chiu has warned of the possibility of a “misfire.”

Taiwan regards itself as an independent nation. On the other hand, Taiwan is seen by China as a breakaway province. It hasn’t ruled out the use of force to bring the country together.

When asked about the present military tensions with China in the parliament, Defense Minister Chiu Kuo-cheng claimed the situation was “the most severe” in the more than 40 years since he joined the military.

Mr Chiu also warned China would be capable of mounting a full-scale invasion of the island by 2025.He was speaking as a parliamentary committee in Taipei considered a special military spending of T$240 billion ($8.6 billion) defense bill to build missiles and warships. Acknowledging that China already has the capacity to invade, he said such a move would get easier in coming years, though he did not elaborate.
