Three penalty shots were saved by the Aston Villa goalkeeper, propelling Argentina to a fairytale final against Brazil.

Emiliano Martinez gave Argentina a brave, legendary performance in goal on Tuesday, advancing his team to the Copa America final with a 3-2 victory over Colombia on penalty kicks. The match finished in a 1-1 draw, and the trash-talking, hip-thrusting Aston Villa goalkeeper saved three of the five penalties he faced in the shootout. Lionel Messi, Leandro Paredes, and Lautaro Martinez all scored from the spot for his team, setting up a magnificent Argentina-Brazil final on Saturday night.

Argentina posed a threat right away, scoring after only seven minutes. Gio Lo Celso delivered a world-class ball into the box to Messi’s foot, setting up Lautaro Martinez for the game’s first goal. Argentina maintained control of the game until halftime, looking like the team most likely to score the second goal. Colombia coach Reinaldo Rueda made three changes at that point, giving his team greater technical skill and speed, and the favorites’ problems began.

Colombia remained a menace against Argentina’s poor defense, and they paid the price in the 61st minute. Luis Diaz was sent through after a quick free kick, and the Porto forward finished from a title angle to equalize. Argentina, on the other hand, had chances, wasting two great opportunities late in the second half. Martinez first missed a goal that was only defended by one defender because David Opsina was caught off guard, but his badly taken effort was easily cleared. Then it was Messi who was sent into the box, turning and shooting off the left post to send the game to penalties.

The favorites kept their cool in the shootout, with their goalie putting on a masterful show of how to win a shootout. In 8 p.m. ET on Saturday, Argentina and Brazil will face off at the famed Maracana in Rio de Janeiro.
