The Bollywood couple announced in a joint statement that they were living separately but sharing their lives like an extended family.
Bollywood actor Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao announced their separation after 15 years of marriage, saying they began a planned separation some time ago, and now feel comfortable to formalize the arrangement.
In a statement, the celebrity pair claimed they will “remain loving parents” to their son Azad, whom they welcomed in 2011.
The pair declared in a joint statement that they were living separately but shared their lives like an extended family. The statement said, “We will also continue to work as partners on films, Paani Foundation, and other initiatives that we feel strongly about.”
“We have shared a lifetime of events, joy, and laughter in these 15 wonderful years together, and our relationship has only grown in trust, respect, and love. We’d like to start a new chapter in our life now that we’re no longer husband and wife, but co-parents and family members for each other,” it said.
“A huge thank you to our family and friends for their unwavering support and understanding of this progression in our relationship, without whom we would not have felt so confident in taking this leap,” their statement said.
“We ask for well wishes and blessings from our well-wishers, and hope that, like us, you will consider this divorce as the beginning of a new journey.”
